'Rick and Morty' Introduces New Voices for Iconic Characters in Season 7 Opener
In the Season 7 premiere of "Rick and Morty," the show unveiled the replacement voice actors for Justin Roiland, who was removed from the popular animated series following domestic violence charges. Ian Cardoni has taken on the role of Rick Sanchez, while Harry Belden now voices Morty Smith. Notably, the opening credits no longer include the familiar "Created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon" and instead feature only the "Rick and Morty" logo.
Although the characters' new voices were previewed in the Season 7 trailer in September, the actual voice actors remained undisclosed until the premiere. Adult Swim, the network airing the show, had initially promised to reveal the names before the season launch but later opted to keep them confidential until the east coast premiere on Oct. 15.
Justin Roiland, who faced domestic violence charges in January, resulting in his termination from Adult Swim, was a co-creator of "Rick and Morty." The charges were later dismissed in March. Roiland, accused in September of using his fame to meet young women, some underage, and facing allegations of sexual assault, has denied these claims through his attorney.
"Rick and Morty," known for its unique storyline following a grandfather-grandson duo as they traverse the universe, has been well-received since its debut in 2013. Season 7 promises ten new episodes, premiering on Adult Swim on Oct. 15.
In addition to his work on "Rick and Morty," Roiland was also the co-creator and lead voice actor on Hulu's animated series "Solar Opposites." His replacement for the voice of lead character Korvo is announced as Dan Stevens.
